As designers, the children will be developing their inventive skills. We will be designing and creating our own rockets that we will send to space to investigate what is out there. We will then evaluate our designs.

As artists, the children will be exploring how to use a range of materials to create different effect. The children will use paint to create image of the sun and investigate how colours can be mixed. They will also use the weaving technique with paper to create fantasy planets.

As mathematicians, the children will  compare and order numbers to 100, identify one more or one less and count in 2’s, 5’s 10’s forwards and backwards. They need to understand the value of money including coins and notes and will be telling time (o’clock and half past). Autumn 1

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a lovely holiday and made lots of exciting memories, I look forward to hearing all about them.

This first half term we have three fantastic topics that we will be exploring. To begin with we are going to focus on 'The World of Work', this is something we are looking at as a whole school. In Year 1 we will be looking at people who help us and what we would love to be when we are older. After that we will be developing our knowledge of our local area and what beautiful things we have in Whiston. This will lead on to looking at houses and how they are all different. Do you think Cinderella lives in the same type of house as you do?
