Who were the Tudors?

This half term we will be aiming to answer the question  ‘Who were the Tudors?’

 

As Writers we will be giving instructions on how to make traditional Tudor gingered. After visiting Temple Newsam we will write a recount of our trip. We will then move onto writing narratives based on a  Henry the VIII. We will end the term by writing a report on our favourite aspect of Tudor life.

 

As Scientists we will  be becoming Tudor farmers and growing our own plants, learning about what a plant needs to grow and naming different  parts of a plant. 

 

As Historians we will be learning what life was like in the Tudor times, looking at the monarchs of the Tudor times, Tudor dress, Henry’s wives, Tudor banquets, the battle of Bosworth, Sir Francis Drake and Tudor houses and school. 

 

As Geographers we will be following the journey of Sir Francis Drake, by learning to read maps, locating the world’s continents and countries that he visited.

 

As Artists we will be studying famous Tudor portraits and creating our own Tudor portraits using sketching and water colours. We will then be looking at Tudor clothing and designing some of our own Tudor clothing and adding patterned detail using pen and ink.

 

As designers we will be creating our own Tudor recipes and designing our own Greek dishes  as part of international week.

 

In ICT we will be developing our research skills which will aid our learning across all subjects. We will also be developing our awareness on E-safety and how we can keep safe on the internet and look after our computing equipment.

 

As Mathematicians we will begin by looking at place value and developing our skills in mental and written addition and subtraction. We will then expand out knowledge on 2D and 3D shapes, linking this to Tudor building. We will also be using symmetry to help us develop our Tudor portraits.
