Week beginning 13th July 2020

Dear Year 3,

We can hardly believe that we are now approaching the end of the Summer Term. A summer of fun and relaxation awaits you all! We hope that you all have a good rest and are able to have lots of fun with your families whilst keeping safe at the same time.

In maths this week we are comparing mass, developing our understanding of clocks and telling the time at 5 minute and one minute intervals. Keep your times table skills sharp by regularly using TT Rockstars.

In writing we would like you to create a Lockdown capsule, including in it a letter to the person who may find it one day. We also would like you to write a letter to yourself to be opened in a Year. This week please can you reflect on your favourite memories of Year 3 by creating an acrostic poem about Year 3? Your topic work links to this too. We would also like you to complete a piece of artwork to represent our class. Further details are on the timetable.

Thank you all for being such a lovely class to teach.  We have had a wonderful time being your teachers and even though our time together was sadly cut short, we have some lovely memories of the times we have shared. We are both very much look forward to seeing your smiley faces in September.

Week beginning 6.7.20

Dear Year 3,

We hope you had lots of fun last week and over the weekend. Thank you to those who have sent in pictures or work to show us what you have been doing at home. Did you all manage to email Mrs Lockwood? I am sure she would love you to introduce yourselves to her.

In maths this week we are revising shape, multiplying by 10 and 100 and reading different scales. Again we will be using the Oak National Academy as you have an online teacher to support you. We hope you have been keeping up with your Beat the Clock Friday tasks and that you are working your way through them. Remember they are on the Home Learning section of the school website.

In writing you will need the ‘Catch It’ activity pack. As usual, instructions are on the timetable. You will be writing from a different view point, creating a fact file and other tasks linked to a film clip. There is a guided reading comprehension for each day too.

Like last week, afternoon activities are based around a range of fun, non-screen activities. You will need the ‘Non screen activities’ sheet. There are 25 different creative activities for you to complete throughout the week which encourage you to use a range of different skills. We hope you have fun completing them.

Your parents will receive an email this week. In it there is Wordle Memory picture of our time together, this is something we thought you might like to keep as a memory of our topsy turvy school year. You could have a go at making one of your own – maybe linked to your family’s experiences during Lockdown. The site we used is: https://wordart.com/

Have a great week everyone.

Week beginning 29th June 2020

Dear Year 3

We hope you are all well and that you have enjoyed being outdoors in this lovely sunshine. Again, we have enjoyed catching up with you and your parents on the phone.

This week you will receive an emailed letter from the teacher that you are going to have next year. In the letter the teacher will introduce themselves and you will learn more about them. So don’t forget to check your emails!

For our maths work this week we are going to identify rectangles including squares, describe 2-D shapes based on their properties, draw 2-D shapes based on their properties, describe the properties of 3-D shapes and identify and describe symmetry of 2-D shapes. We will also be sharpening our mental maths skills through TT Rockstars and Numbots.

In our writing sessions you will have opportunity to write a reply to your next teacher. Follow the instructions on the timetable as there are other things to do first to help you with this.

All our topic work this week is based around the theme of ‘Recipes’. Interesting, eh? You will need the ‘Non screen recipe themed ideas’ sheet. It is full of interesting activities that encourage you to be inquisitive and creative.

We hope you enjoy this learning.

We miss you all very much.

Week beginning 22nd June 2020

Hi Class 3,

We hope you have had a great week; we had a bit of different week last week.  I, (Mrs Thompson), taught some of Year 1 on Monday and Mrs Hall taught them later in the week. It was lovely to be in class teaching again but it reminded us more of how much we miss you all. We hope you’re all well and happy.

Try not to forget to keep your times table knowledge sharp by playing regularly on TT Rockstars. If you haven’t tried Numbots yet it is a great chance to practise adding and subtracting. It starts off with easier questions then gradually becomes more of a challenge. This week in maths we will be identifying and drawing perpendicular and parallel lines and thinking about the properties of rectangles including squares. We will be using the National Oak Academy again as many of you told me that you enjoyed it.

Our Science and Writing are based around skeletons and muscles. There is a lot for you to learn about the different skeleton types, the human skeleton and muscles. I have given lots of links for you to investigate.  Have a look at the recommendations I have put on Epic books for you to look at, there are some useful books to read. In writing you will write an explanation about the skeleton and muscles. You will also be developing your ICT skills by creating a PowerPoint or word document linked to your learning.

We hope you have a fun week and we look forward to chatting to you on the phone.

Week beginning 15th June 2020

Hi Everyone,

We hope that you and your families are keeping well. We were so lucky with the lovely weather earlier in Lockdown, weren’t we? We certainly missed the sunshine last week! Fortunately, the good weather is meant to be back this week so it gives us a chance to get outside more and enjoy early Summer.

Our maths learning this week is linked to adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers, developing efficient methods (the best ways of working calculations out), checking strategies and times tables. I will be asking you about how you found the National Oak Academy (which we used last week for angles) when I speak to you and we may use that resource again the next week.

In SPAG you have a range of spelling and grammar activities linked to our learning throughout year 3. In English our learning links to a film clip called the Lighthouse. You will be writing diamante poetry, answering questions about the clip, writing your own ending to the story and creating a comic strip.

We will continue our work on significant people in our topic work at the start of the week. On Wednesday we would like you to spend a bit of time thinking about Lockdown and what positive experiences you have gained from it. During the end of the week you will be learning about nutrition in science.

We hope that you all have a great week. We miss you all very much.

Week beginning 8th June 2020

Hi Everyone

We hope you are all happy and well. It was great to speak to you and your grown ups last week. If we didn’t manage to chat to you or your grown up last week we will try again this week.

In our maths lessons this week we will be learning about angles. We will be recognising different angles in shapes, understanding that an angle is a property of a shape and we will be learning the names of angles and understanding the properties of different angles. A different resource will be used this week to support our learning. The National Oak Academy is an online classroom. The lesson link for each day is on the timetable. All you need to do to access the lesson is use the link and then follow the lesson instructions. You start each session with a quiz then move on to a video and an online worksheet. When we call you, please let us know what you think about this resource and this way of learning. I have attached a couple of sheets linked to this for your parents to read.

We hope you enjoyed learning about Mary Anning last week and now understand why she is remembered. This week we are learning about a different significant person, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, an engineer born in the Victorian era. At the end of this week your own engineering skills will be put to the test as we are asking you to have a go at designing and making a bridge. Please take photos and send them in to school, we would love to see your learning. As usual, everything is explained on the timetable.

Continuing with the theme of significant people, you have a selection reading comprehensions to complete in English which are all linked to significant people. In each set the comprehensions are starred from 1 * to 3***, 3***’s being the most challenging. Print one of the sets to complete.

First news are offering a free printed version of their newspaper for you to try. Here is the link: https://subscribe.firstnews.co.uk/free-issue-june/?utm_source=pdf-sign-ups&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=print-issue

Week beginning 1st June 2020

Hello Year 3,

We hope you enjoyed the half term break and that it was filled with fun. The weather has been so beautiful making the garden a wonderful place to be.

This week in maths we will practise a range of skills: subtracting money, multiplying and dividing by 3, 4 and 8 then multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit. We will use the White Rose videos at the start of the week and the sheets but later in the week we will use different resource sheets as the White Rose ones are not available. Follow the instructions on the timetable.

In English we will be learning what an autobiography and a biography are and about the features of each. Again, follow the guide on the timetable.

Significant people will be our topic this term. We will learn about people that are considered important in history and we will think about why. This week we will start with Mary Anning. We hope you enjoy learning about her life and why she is considered important.

Some year groups are starting back at school this week. We are hoping that it is soon our turn to start back and that we enjoy some of the Summer Term together.

We miss you.

Week Beginning 18th May 2020

Hi Everyone,

We hope you are all well. This week is National School Sport Week. An email about this has been sent outlining activities for you to take part in each day and we have also put the letter on here so you can access it easily. Remember to take photographs of your sporting activities and email them into school so we can what you have been doing.

This week in Maths you will be problem solving then moving on to converting pounds into pence then adding money. In English work will be based around A Cloudy Lesson. A pack linked to this is attached. The pack contains a range of activities that link to English and other curriculum areas too. For Science we would like you to learn more about plants, what are the different parts of a plant and what are their functions? One of the activities invites you to dissect a plant to examine the different parts. If you would like to do that you will need to have a flower such as a tulip or a lily as these flowers clearly show the different parts.

Look after yourselves Class 3, we miss you very much.

Week beginning May 11th 2020

Hi Year 3,

We hope you are all well. Did you have lots of fun on VE Day? I, (Mrs Thompson) had a lovely time celebrating with my family. We dressed up in red, white and blue clothes, made bunting, buns and cake then had a tea party on our front lawn whilst listening to 1940s music. Unfortunately the cake didn’t rise (I don’t have much luck with making chocolate cakes), but it tasted delightful!

In maths this week we are continuing our work on fractions. We will be using the White Rose Home Learning site again. On Monday we will be ordering fractions, Wednesday and Thursday we will add then subtract fractions and on Friday we will be solving fraction problems. On Tuesday we have a challenge which gives us chance to practise a range of maths skills.

In English we have a range of tasks to do this week. We will need to think about what happens next after looking at funny pictures on Monday and Thursday so that we can write a story or a recount. We have word puzzles to solve too and an animal alphabet to sort out so that should keep us busy.

Again in topic we are back to some of our work linking to Ancient Egypt so you will need your topic grid. On my daily walks I have noticed so many different types of trees, I don’t know what type some of them are so I am going to try and identify them using leaf, twig and blossom identification guides. I thought we could do this together so on our page there are guides for you to use too. We will also be sketching nature in Art and looking more carefully to create observational drawings.

We hope you have a lovely week. We miss you lots.

This week's timetable week beginning 4th May

Hi Everyone,

We hope that you are all well and are looking forward to another week of learning from home.

Here is the timetable for next week. Victory in Europe Day is on Friday this week so we have linked this with your English and Topic learning (Tuesday – Thursday) to it. You will notice that particular sheets are needed to some of the English and topic activities; you will find these in the same place as the timetable on the class page.

In maths we will be continuing with fractions. We are furthering our understanding of equivalent fractions them moving on to comparing fractions. The particular week and day we are using from the website is on the timetable.

We have very much enjoyed chatting to you and your grown- ups again this week. It has also been fabulous to see the wonderful work that you have been doing at home via email. Below is a fabulous poem that Jackson and his Dad have written. We think it sums up the situation we are in at the moment perfectly!

We miss you. Take care of each other.

Mrs Thompson and Mrs Hall

Isolation Nation

The whole nation is in isolation, and the situation is a strange sensation.

The separation of the population, led to

irritation and max frustration.

The termination of our education, leaves our generation lacking stimulation.

Home Learning w/c 27th April

Hi Everyone!

We hope you are all well and keeping safe. It was great to speak to most of your grown ups and some of you last week! I didn't manage to catch you all but Mrs Hall or myself will try again this coming week. I really enjoyed hearing about your learning and your news too.

Above is a time table for next week. If you need any sheets printing please contact school and that can be arranged for you. Like I said last week, this is a guide so use it as you and your grown ups see best. At home this week with Charlotte we used Smarties for her fraction learning, this wasn't on her timetable but it made her realise a third is bigger than a quarter!

Take care everyone, Mrs Hall and I are missing you lots.
