Guided reading

In year three we are very passionate about our reading and spend at least 30minute a day reading. Our daily carousal of activities include…
1.Guided reading on class book and APE
2.Bug club with various follow up activities to show understanding
3.Comprehension activity
4.1:1 reading with Mrs Campell
5.Newspaper reciprocal reading
 
Guided reading is done on a weekly basis and focuses on the class book for that ½ term. We look at the children's understanding of the book and answer question using APE

1:1 Reading

1:1 reading is done at least one a week with either myself or Mrs Campell.

The children are expected to read a minimum of three times a week at home, to either themselves or an adult; an adult is then required to sign the reading record in order for their child to get a sticker for their bookmark.

Once the bookmark is full the children will then get a prize of their choice from the reading prize box.

Bug Club

Bug club is updated weekly witha variety of age appropoate text, the children then complete a follow up activity to show their undestanding of the book

Comprehension

The children do a variety of different comprehension activities. The purpose of this is to improve the children understanding of the text they have read.

First News

First News is a newspaper designed just for children. the children enjoy reading the newspaper withe eachother and discussing their favourite stories.

50 books to read by the end of year three challenge

50 books have been selected as the top books to read while you are in Year 3.  You can read them in any order.  When you have read a book you can complete a book review form to tell your class mates about the book. For each book you read you will get 5 Dojo points, thats 250 Dojos up for grabs!

Will you be a raffle ticket winner?

Bookmarks

Raffle tickets

If your child has read a minimum of three times a week at home they will get a raffle ticket with will be entered into a weekly school draw. The winner of the raffle will then get to choose a book from the luxury school book box.

 

Are you the reader of the week?

Every week Miss Hunt will choose a ‘reader of the week’ this choice will be made based on the child’s comprehension during guided read.
