The Rainforest

Welcome back to Spring 1 term in Y4!

This half term we will be answering the question  ‘Could we run wild in the rainforest?

This learning is based on the novel Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo which, through the story of Will, a nine year old boy, will support the children in dealing with some challenging life lessons such as death, survival and difficult choices linked with deforestation and natural disasters.

As Geographers, we will be identifying the position and significance of latitude, longitude and exploring where in the world the rainforests are.

As Artists we will be examining the work of Sarah Young, illustrator and adapting her style of art work into pen and ink images of our own.

As Writers we will be undertaking a novel study and really immersing ourselves in the book and linking with this we will be creating non-chronological reports about creatures of the rainforests,  using our creating writing skills to produce a diary as if we were Will and exploring poetry.

As Scientists we will be looking at sound and linking this with sounds of the rainforest.

As Mathematicians we will be revising our knowledge of the four operations aswell as moving onot fractions decimals and measurement.

During our PE sessions in school we will be learning rugby, as well as developing our football skills so please continue to ensure that your child has both an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school at all times.

To support the children's understanding of the world around them,  Religious Education this term will focus on values and what matters most to Christians, Humanists and themselves.
