5,4,3,2,1, Blast off into space

Hello everyone

Our learning this week is based around the topics of space and shape.

You can listen to the story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0XQ9YhWd_Y

Listen to the shapes songs

2d shapes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEbRDtCAFdU

3d shapes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A

There are many activities for you to have a go at, the ones that have a printable sheet are provided and marked (S):

*Listen to the story of ‘Whatever Next’ by Jilly Murphy. Can you retell the story to someone else? What was your favourite part? Draw a picture and write about it.

*If you were going on a trip to space, what would you take with you? Use the ruck sack and either cut out the pictures or draw your own objects in the ruck sack. What do you think would be the most important thing to take? Why? (S)

*If you were lucky enough to blast off into space in a rocket, what 10 things would you take with you. Write a list using the rocket sheet (S)

*Make up your own space adventure story. Cut out the stick puppet pictures and stick them to a lollipop stick or a pencil. Use them to help act out your story. How do you get into space? What will happen? Will you meet any space creatures? Tell your story to a grown-up (S)

*Read the space sentences. Use your fantastic segmenting and blending skills to help you (S)

*Have a go at the different activities on the space home learning challenge sheet (S)

* Ask a grown up to help you to read the story ‘Back to Earth with a Bump’ using the power point (S)

*After reading the story, Back to Earth with a Bump’ can you redesign your bed into some sort of spacecraft? Draw a picture of it and colour it in. Write labels or captions to describe each of the different parts. Could you have a go at writing a story of your adventure in your new spacecraft?

*If you went into space, do you think that you might bump into an alien? Design your own alien, what might it look like? Draw a picture on the design sheet. Can you use junk modelling or construction kits to make it? Have a go! (S)

*Can you create an alien using your handprint or footprint or both of them? Either draw round your hand/foot or do a print using paint. Use collage materials such as bottle tops, pipe cleaners, goggly eyes, coloured sticks, coloured paper, buttons, foil or use felt tip pens to add features to your alien such as eyes, hair etc.

*How would you travel into space? Have a go at making a rocket, spaceship or flying saucer. What resources will you need to use?

*Imagine you travelled into space in your rocket, spaceship or flying saucer. What do you think you might see? Draw, paint or collage a picture of what you might see out of the window

*Craters on the Moon- science investigation- How do you think the craters on the moon were made? Have a go at the investigation and see what you can find out! (S) (S)

*Have a go at the different shape and pattern games on

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/3-5-years/shape-position-and-movement

*Make a rocket by cutting out and sticking the 2d shapes. Which shapes have you used? (S)

*Have a go at the different maths activities in the Space-Themed maths Activity book (S)

*Can you count like an alien? Use the I Spy to 20 sheets (S) (S)

*Colour in the space picture by solving the subtraction and addition questions (S)

* Make your own 2d shapes using sticks, pencils, straws and or string. Think of the 2d shapes you know, draw them and then make them with your resources. Tell a grown-up about the shapes you make. Remember- sides, corners, flat, straight, curved

*How many sides? How many corners? Complete the 2d shape properties table activity. Use the 2d shape mat to help you (S) (S)

*Match the correct 2d shape to the clues. Use the 2d shape properties activity sheet (S)

*Does it have straight or curved sides? Look at the 2 hoops (Venn diagram). Where does each of the 2d shapes need to go in the hoops? Think carefully and sort them in the correct place in the hoops (S)

*Repeating patterns- can you continue the 2d shape pattern? Say the pattern to check when you have completed it. No peeping at the answer sheet! (S)

*Can you name the 3d shapes on the Maths Home Learning challenge sheet? Have a go! (S)

*Sort the 3d shape picture cards onto the correct 3d shape board. Describe each shape to a grown-up. Remember faces, edges, vertices, flat, curved. Use the 3d shape mat to help you (S) (S)

*Maths Home Learning Challenge- Does it Roll? Do all 3d shape roll? (S)

Keep safe, keep smiling and happy learning!

Lots of love Mrs Lodge, Mrs Perry, Mrs Green, Mrs Hill and Mrs Mercer
