Summer 2-Week 1

Hello Year 4,

I hope you had a rested week off and enjoyed this lovely weather we’ve been having! Can you believe we are in the last half term of year 4? This year has gone super quick!

So a new half term means a new topic and this half term we are looking at the Ancient Greeks, exciting! Our enquiry question is ‘Who were the Ancient Greeks?’ So hopefully by the end of this week you should know some basic information!

In writing you will need to do lots of research to help you write a non-chronological report. The aim of the report is to give information to the peers in you class. If you would like to email them in I will add them to the school website, which will help your classmates over the future weeks. I have suggested what you write each paragraph on, however you can change this if you wish.

This week’s maths is looking at place value. I want you to complete the resources attached to the best of your ability (some of the last questions may be a little tricky). This work will help prepare you for year 5 and is meant to challenge you! On Friday I want you to create a poster on place value about everything you have learnt this week. Remember if you are finding the work a little tricky you can work from you abacus text book, or on the year 4 website page there is a tab named maths with some extra resources.

On Monday in guided reading I have attached a report on the Ancient Greeks with some questions (this should also help you in writing), however for the next couple of weeks you will be reading a book named ‘The man who bought a mountain.’ I have uploaded the book onto our year 4 page so you can read it online. On the resources attached there is also a link to a person reading the book to you. I hope you enjoy it!

Our Science topic this half term is ‘Animals Including Humans.’ This week we will be looking at the digestive system, I’m sure you will find this very interesting.

As always your spellings are attached.

I know lots of you enjoy being creative, I won’t be setting any art and design technology work, as I’m unsure what resources you have at home, but please feel free to create some lovely masterpieces and show me what you’ve been doing!

I will be ringing you all this week and I can’t wait to hear what you’ve been getting up to.

Lots of love,

Miss Hunt x
