Week 6- WB 06/07/20

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a lovely week last week and are still continuing to learn lots of different things in different ways! Hopefully by now you know that I am going to continue to be your teacher in year 5 (I’m sure you was thrilled!) I’m very excited be moving up with you! You are a lovely class and I was upset that I didn’t get to spend a full year with you, however now I get a whole extra year J. This is my first time in year 5 to, so it will be an exciting adventure that we can start together!

Many of the other teachers in school have written letters introducing themselves, however I think we know each other quiet well? So instead I thought I’d write a little quiz about me, Mrs Haines and our class. I wonder if any of you can get the full 15 points? I will write another letter next week with the answers.

  1. How long has Miss Hunt worked at Whiston J and I for?
  2. What after school club did Mrs Haines run?
  3. What is Miss Hunt’s first name?
  4. Can you name the 6 topics we studied during Y4? (including your home learning)
  5. What subject does Miss Hunt lead in school?
  6. What is Miss Hunt’s dog called?
  7. Where did we go on our 1st trip in Y4?
  8. How many children does Mrs Haines have?
  9. How many pupils are there in our class?
  10. What pets does Mrs Haines have?
  11. How old is Miss Hunt?
  12. Which country did Mrs Haines live in before she got married?
  13. What is Miss Hunt’s favourite hobby?
  14. What was the title of the most recent book we read in guided reading?
  15. What breed of dog does Miss Hunt have?

This is also a good opportunity for you to think about any ambitions, goals or plans you may have for next year? Try and think of five! Mine are: To run the Round Rotherham race (50 miles), I’d like to learn the front crawl and start open water swimming, Run the London marathon, get married and become Mrs Larkin and finally I’d like to develop my own knowledge of our new Y5 topics so we can have an exciting year!

Your challenge for this week in writing will be to write me a letter. I’d like you tell me some things I may not already know about you, tell me what you’ve been getting up to over the last few months and finally write about your goals, ambitions and plans for the upcoming year. You can also include the answers to our quiz.

Sending lots of love from me and everyone in school!

Writing

Monday

Your challenge for this week it to write me a letter. Although we know each other quiet well, I would still like you to lay it out as a formal letter, this will help you develop your letter writing skills.

Look at the below website, watch the video provided and read the information. I would then like you to take the quiz at the bottom of the page.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zv7fqp3/articles/zkq8hbk

Next I would like you to plan your letter into the following paragraphs:

  1. Introduction
  2. Tell me some things I may not already know about you
  3. Tell me what you’ve been getting up to over the last few months
  4. Write about your goals, ambitions and plans for the upcoming year

Tuesday

WALT: Structure a letter

Today I would like you to write your introduction, tell me the ‘basics’ about yourself and why you’re writing your letter. Remember to layout your letter in a formal way, as shown on the video yesterday (you can use a fake address).

Wednesday

WALT: Use different sentence types and a variety of conjunctions.

Visit the below website, watch the clips and read the information to help refresh your memory of conjunctions.

https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-is-a-conjunction

Your paragraph today is telling me about things I may not already know, this could include your hobbies, interests, pets, family, your favourite memories, films, food etc. As your writing I would like you to think about using a variety of different sentence types and conjunctions. How many different conjunctions can you use?

Thursday

WALT: Use different sentence types and a variety of conjunctions.

Today you are writing about what you’ve been up to since I last saw you. How as life changed? Have you enjoyed the change? What have you missed? Do you have any favourite memories you could share with me? Again I  would like to to focus on using a variety of conjunctions. Try to make you paragraphs roughly half a page long.

Friday

WALT: Use different sentence types and a variety of conjunctions.

Your final paragraph is writing about your goals and ambitions, this could be for the upcoming year both in and out of school. You could also go on to talk about any ambitions you have when you are older. Any hobbies you’d like to peruse? What would be your dream jobs? Remember to finish your letter in a formal way.

If you can please post your letters to school or email them over, as I’d love to read them!
