Summer 1 Week 5
Hello you wonderful lot!
Last week before half term! It's going to be a busy week, but next week you will just have a project to do, so put mega effort in this week and look forward to a slower pace next week.
So, here's what's on the cards:
Maths - a bit of a change this week. We are going to be using The Oak Academy rather than White Rose Maths. The learning is again video based, but with a bit of a difference. First of all you will do a quiz to check your prior knowledge. Then, you will follow a lesson. Throughout the lesson, the teacher will ask you to pause to complete tasks (there are no separate work sheets) and there will be a quiz at the end to check your understanding. I've done them all and I like them, but let me know what you think. In addition, you have a CLiC test and, of course, a Big Maths Beat That! and a few extra challenges along the way.
Writing is based on the Beowulf - our last week on this epic poem. Your first task is to write a letter from one of the warriors who watched the fight between Grendel and Beowulf. Try and imagine you were hiding behind one of the pillars in the great hall watching - use your five senses. Then you are going to use the vocab you gathered last week to write a character description of Grendel - with a twist! I would like you to use Show don't tell to write your description. I have given you a video link to help you and I have made a PowerPoint to help you through the steps.
After that I have given you a piece of my writing for you to Peer Assess. You are brilliant writers and I would really welcome your opinion. Email me with your suggested improvements! Finally, competition time! I want you to write the battle scene - the best one will be published on our website! Email them to school so I can see them. Remember, your first draft isn't always your best draft, so I've given you until the end of the holiday to email them in. Can't wait to see your showcase paragraphs!
Next week would have been Sports Week at school, and this year would have been the Olympics. To celebrate, your comprehensions this week are based around great Olympians. Fascinating reading and super inspiring. I have also included a research project on the Ancient Olympics - learn some brand new facts. Perhaps you could design a new school sports kit - use the template to help you, or some mindfulness colouring to relax you. Enjoy!
This week is also Murder Mystery Week! I have given you a series of clues to solve every day. Find the murderer on Friday - will you be right? I have also thrown in a fun music lesson which you will enjoy which concentrates on rhythm. Get your clapping hands ready!
Have a super week!
Lots of love to you and your families.
