Summer 2 Week 3

Well, you absolute legends - what a week I've got for you this week! I would love it if we could do this learning together because I was so excited when I was planning it for you and can't wait for you to have a go! It's on the website today, but no peeking until Monday!

So, let me give you a taster.

IT'S MYSTERY WEEK IN YEAR 5'S WORLD...

You're going to be 'Thrilled' with our reading tasks this week - all based around Michael Jackson's song Thriller - and if I don't hear you belting it out in my house from your kitchen, I'm going to be beyond disappointed!  You are going to love this one - I've been listening to it all week and my dancing feet are already sore!  You have a lyric sheet, a link to the video and some questions around it every day using our VIPERS.  It's close to midnight.......

Where do I start with your writing.I've been wanting to teach this book since I discovered it and it is a little shining diamond in my library, like your favourite Quality Street chocolate at Christmas.  I know we can't do it together, but I so wanted to share it with you and this is the only way I can.  It's called The Mystery of Harris Burdick and this is the story so far...

An encounter took place between a children's book editor called Peter Wenders and an author and illustrator named Harris Burdick.  Harris Burdick tells Peter Wenders that he has 14 stories that he has written; he has brought one picture from each story with a caption. He leaves with a promise to deliver the complete manuscripts if the editor chooses to buy the books. The next day, Burdick did not show up. Burdick had mysteriously disappeared. Over the years, Wenders tried to find out who Harris Burdick was, but he never found out. Burdick was never seen again, and the samples are all that remain of his supposed books……

The book has less than 150 words in it, but the pictures write a thousand words each!  Just wait until you see them - the writers in you will be itching to get out!  Please, please, please send me some of your work in by email or photo.  I would love to see it so I feel we have shared this book.

Maths is decimals this week, which I know you will nail so I've set you an Nrich challenge which had me foxed.  Can you beat me??

In other news this week,  I was lucky enough to see a whole nest of wren chicks leave (fledge)  their nest just after dawn on Friday morning from my garden wall - an event I have been anticipating after seeing their parents work tirelessly to feed them for the past few weeks.  Four perfect round feather balls with neon yellow overly large beaks, and the loudest squeaks! The day was just perfect from that moment on.

Have a wonderful week this week my Year five family

Much love
