Summer 2 Week 6
To my wonderful Team
Again, thank you so much for my utterly lovely video and collage. You really have been the 'Dream Team'.
This week's learning has to go down as one of the best yet. I have loved planning it, and I hope you are going to love doing it!
In maths it's transformations and reflections fortnight. I think you will really enjoy this unit - it's a bit like solving puzzles and using your thinking and visualization skills, which I know you are really good at.
In literacy, we are using The Literacy Shed - the film you are using is a fantastic film called Dangle - what could this be?? Just wait until you see it. You really will need your thinking skills for this one! Adult Team Lockwood, there's a fun task for you to think about too at the end of the week - you will only need your brain and an imagination, and maybe the help of your own personal genius superstar.
Reading - I've spun this around this week, because you are now almost as clever as me. Almost. I have set questions for you all year connected to our VIPERS on various texts, and you have all really risen to the challenge and nailed your answers. Sooooo, this time it's over to you. I would like you to construct questions every day on a given text using our VIPERS. Can you be the teacher? Think you might struggle? Fear ye not, as I have put together a powerpoint to remind you what each one is and some sample question stems (stems are the type of question you would need to ask). Remember, you will also need to supply the answer sheet, so make sure you can answer the questions. You will really need to examine the text like I do to work out the questions. The text is quite long, so you can either examine the whole text, or just a section of the text, depending on how much you want to challenge yourself. Why don't you get your adults to answer your questions so you can really challenge them? I think you are going to LOVE the text I have chosen. It's very familiar to you, and I know it's all our favourite. Can you guess what it is........?
Do you remember in our lessons we try to link our learning to real life to help you be ready to be a grown up? Well this week I'm going to help you a bit more along the way. They say money makes the world go round, and if it does, it's really important that you know all about it and what to do with your money when you earn it - be it your pocket money, birthday money, or money you earn from a future job (a salary). We spoke about overdrafts when we learn about negative numbers, and interest rates when we learnt about percentages, but these powerpoints and tasks will teach you all about money and it's origins, our currency, foreign currency, banks, savings and how to spend and save well. I've learnt so much about it too putting these lessons together, and I now look at our banknotes completely differently. You will see what I mean.
Once again, we have handwriting, so you can brush up on your skills. Next week, I'm going to ask you to publish something, so make sure you're practicing every day :-)
Can you believe it's our last week together next week? Roll on Summer and happy days when we can feel the sun on our faces and smell the warmth of the corn ripening into golden seas.
Always missing you too.
