Clifton Park Daily Mile Fun Run

On Sunday the 6th of May the 1st daily mile fun run and 10k took place at Clifton Park. The race was organised by Ray Mathews, who last year turned 75 and ran 75 consecutive marathons in order to raise money for Newman school. This year Ray's challenge was to get Rotherham fit, as well as raising money for the charity help the aged in Rotherham. Over 200 children took park in the fun run, an impressive 33 of which were from Whiston J and I!

Children from year 1 to year 6 took part and after months of doing the daily mile-which Ray launched last year, the children felt confident and were raring to go. Despite the warm weather all the children completed the race in amazing times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A special mention to our top three finishes Ellis (Y6), Noah (Y3), Jonah (Y4). Although Whiston did not win the Daily Mile cup, they were only 4 seconds off St Beades and finished in a respectable 2nd place! Well done everyone. For full results see the link below.

UEFA European Under-17 Championship Cup

Last week Whiston J & I had a visit off Gary from Rotherham United, who came to show us the under-17 Championship Cup. The cup did a tour of each class, giving each child the opportunity to hold it and ask questions. The cup is made from pure silver and is worth £40,000. It has been won by many popular footballers including Wayne Rooney. This summer there will be various under 17 championship England games held at the New York Stadium, if you would like to attend see Miss Hunt for free tickets.

Our Amazing EIS Day

Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed their day at the EIS, where they had the opportunity to try lots of new sports and developed their skills. The children completed a total of 16 different activities from cheerleading to track running, a tiring, but very rewarding day! Thank you to all children and staff that were so enthusiastic and a special thank you to parents for contributing to travel costs.
